How are you feeling?”

I’ve found myself on the receiving end of this question several times in the past few weeks, and it’s starting to grind my gears.

How are you feeling?”

You might expect to be asked this if you’ve just been through a break-up, or been ill, or perhaps a loved one passed away, but none of these things has happened to me.

So what’s prompted the sudden concern about my wellbeing?

I turned thirty.

And all of a sudden people are acting like I have just weeks left to live and should hurry to pick my burial plot before all the south-facing ones are taken.

I mean, turning thirty isn’t that big a deal, is it?

Sure, it feels like only yesterday I was turning eighteen, getting drunk at festivals, and marvelling at the size of the Yorkshire Pudding I’d just bought.

What a tool this guy was.

Eighteen-year-old me had no idea what he wanted to do with his life. The only thing…
