Boss getting you down? You’re not alone.

A global poll conducted by Gallup in 2019 found that 85% of the world’s one billion full-time employees report being unsatisfied and unhappy at work.

And what’s the number one reason for our unhappiness at work?

Our bosses.

But what is it that our bosses doing (or not doing) that has caused us to dread going to work every day?

It’s simple — most bosses have no idea how to do the job they’ve been given.

Where Do Our Bosses Come From?

When we begin our careers, the only responsibility we have is to do our job well. Our companies give us training and send us away on courses designed to make us more effective at our jobs. We come to work every day, work really hard, and do our jobs well.

After a time, once we’ve demonstrated our ability, we get promoted, and we may find ourselves in the position where we are now responsible for the people who do the job we used to do. Suddenly, our ability to do the job no longer matters — we are now evaluated based on other people’s ability to do the job.
